Elliott raises his eyebrows as he swallows a bit of glorious breakfast sammich. "He approached you, Layla? What did he want, and how did he wind up working for you?" He takes a deep drink of tea.

As you talk, a slaver carriage goes by with one person in it and 6 city guards around it. It is a human male with fancy-ish clothes on. His blonde beard is braided in several long thick golden braids. He is blindfolded, manacled, gagged, and tied to a chair in an adamantine cage.

"As I was playing he approached me rather impressed with my talent at playing, as he should have been. Then he wanted to know how it worked. And of course I would never deny someone knowledge when they are willing to learn. So After I explained to him how it worked he was very excited. So I allowed him to play and build the structure."

"He totally looked mind controlled to me. He was focusing pretty hard there then." Elliott nods over to the passing cart. "Jeez. Somebody doesn't want that guy escaping." He finishes his breakfast and stands up. "Shall we head to the arena then?"

(the fact that you were able to figure that out so quickly is almost terrifyingly impressive)

Laya takes a few more bites of her food before standing up and lay's a few gold pieces on the table to pay for everyone's meal. She looks out at the man but pays him no mind seeing as how he is not even close to a threat to her. "Well, I did give him some help in allowing him to focus better. All for his own good I assure you."

"I suppose that's settled then. I'm going to go get my armor upgraded before the arena. Thanks for covering our breakfast, Layla." Elliott heads for a magic shop that can do armor enchantments. He walks in and tries to get a good price on taking his +3 moderate fortitude mithral banded mail (total +6) to +4 greater fortitude nimble mithral banded mail (total +10).

The shop keeper takes your armour for a few moments and looks it over. "hmmmm...Yes, Yes. I think I could do that for let's say 55,680 gold?" He continues to look at your armour thinking about how he will add the enchantments.

Elliott shakes his hand and gives him the money. He sits in the shop and reads his book while the man works. After his armor is done, he heads to the arena.

(Did Carly fight in the arena while Elliott was getting his armor upgraded?)

As you walk toward the arena, Layla breaks off and starts heading for the building site. "I'll go make sure everything is completed correctly." When you arrive you see Carly arguing with a large man over who could eat more.

Elliott walks up and comments to Carly, "I hope you didn't have too much fun without me. Who's this? Hopeful suitor?" He signs up for a match and starts reading his book.

Carly's eyes widen at the comment. She turns away from the man and goes over to sit down beside you. "What's wrong? Jealous?" She chuckles at her own comeback then switches to a serious face. "Anyway, I found someone you might be interested in. As long as you don't mind the company you keep. He rambled on about honor and he is on the death penalty. In fact he might even be dead by now. But if he isn't he seemed to be rather powerful..For a mage anyway."

Elliott thinks about it. "I'm not sure I want a death row fugitive in my guild. If he got caught doing something illegal for a contract, I might consider it. Desperate people tend to be more helpful, but also much more dangerous and unpredictable. It depends on what he can do. If he has something we need, we could always give him sanctuary on Layla's plane. I tend to lean away from mage mercs because I can't train them and they die too easily, but perhaps he is an enchanter or something. Now THAT would be useful." Elliott laughs and keeps reading. "Where did you find him?"

"I fought against him in the arena. But he's probably dead by now anyway." She leans back against the wall and sighs. "Oh well, we'll just get someone else." After about 20 minutes you are called to the arena.

Across from you stands a Halfling with a rapier there are a few noticeable guards standing around the edge of the arena with arrows fixed on him. "For your next match, a captured assassin from the Sunset Vale against Elliott the undying. Let's get started! Begin!"

I'm going to go ahead and sneak martial lore in here. Assassin: mostly relies on stealth and the element of surprise. His two biggest assets had been robbed from him. Elliott was most definitely NOT an unsuspecting victim. This should be a piece of cake unless the guards let his opponent keep his bag of tricks or poisons. "By Kord, don't let him use poison." Elliott switches his stance to supreme blade and hearing the air just in case the Halfling decides to go invisible or something similar.

Martial lore: +29 (38) (+3 AC and Attack rolls)

(For lore reasons, the arena floor is closed off up the sides and roofed at 100 ft up with permanent walls of force to protect the crowd and also to prevent prisoners from flying away or going etherial and sneaking out.)

The assassin holds out his rapier toward you, he gives you an apathetic look and doesn't appear to have anything else on him except for standard clothing and his rapier. "Well then Gladiator, let's get started." He waves around his hands a little. "Dae anna Cuivie" His sword starts illuminating in darkness and darkness surrounds it for 20 feet. He begins to fade from vision.

(20% concealment, and not sure if you need to make a spot check or not but he's hiding)

(If this arena had the same dimensions of the Roman Coliseum, using stronghold builder's guidebook for a 9th level wizard casting it at 13,150 per cast, it would cost 16,871,450 gold to cast permanent walls of force around a 287x180x100 oval cylinder requiring 1,283 casts. All of the announcers are wizards/sorcerers, so over several years, they did it themselves. 'Cause I'm all about dat math.)
(Blindsense negates concealment of magical darkness. Essentially I'm daredevil when I'm in this stance.)

Elliott approaches the periphery of the darkness (25 feet) keeping his ears attuned to his enemy's every move and knowing exactly where he is. He prepares a standard to attack if he gets near and will parry if he attacks. "Come on out, I can still see you."

The assassin keeps his apathetic face and holds up his rapier in a total defence stance. Most of the crowd starts to get upset since they can't see very well into the shadows.
