The fire monster gets blown away from the massive amount of wind and electricity that hits it. Barris stands up and reattaches his potion to his belt. "Well that was...unexpected." he breathes a heavy depressed sigh. "And there goes my stone!" He lets out a frustrated grrr. Carly puts up her great-axe and pats you on the shoulder. "Well Elliott I don't mean to brag, but I think that was all me."

"Just a sec, Carly." Elliott attaches one sword to his back and approaches Barris with the other sword still in hand. "Sir, if we can avoid making our own monsters, that would make it much simpler for us to keep you alive."

Barris puts his hands in the air but speaks with a raised voice in confidence. "I didn't create it, how could I? You can't make life where there is none." He stands still with his hands still raised in the air waiting for your response.

Elliott sighs. Those arcane types, always partiular about wording. "I'm sorry sir, summoning was the word I meant to say. Next time, if I may make a request, throw the rock further away before it explodes. Now which way to your cabin?" He still wasn't sure if this strange fellow did it on purpose or not. The other two escorts would have died whether it was an accident or intentional. Elliott looks at the halfling for a few extra seconds, trying to discern his motives.

The halfling seems scared that the monster appeared and surprised. You do not think that he did it on purpose. He continues walking. "The cabin is still a few days away. Hopefully we won't have any more accidents like that one."

(nothing significant is supposed to happen over the next few days travelling there but I can find random monsters for you to fight if you want some exp)

(If I did it correctly you receive 750 exp for killing smokey/flamey)

After a few days of travel you eventually start wondering off of any known trail walking through the trees. But there seems to have once been a old path here a long time ago. You keep following it until you come to an old cabin that has been claimed by nature but still intact. Barris goes up to the front door and opens it. Inside you see piles of books everywhere with small pathways in-between them. Barris navigates his way through the books until he finds a table. Then takes out another stone that he created while you were travelling out of his bag and sets it on top of the table. He also takes out a small glowing gem and lays it down beside the stone. Then he turns to Elliott and Carly. "Well I will not force you to follow me from here. So it's your choice, I will soon be teleported you can come with me or stay."

Barris nods his head. "Yes your current contract is completed."

Elliott also nods his head. "If you still require services, another contract needs to be drafted and signed. If not, I must return to the guild. How will payment be delivered?" If a new contract was signed without the guild, Carly and he would get to split it 50/50 instead of 20/20. Elliott liked the idea of an additional 30% especially with the size of the number Barris paid for the first contract.

Barris gets a small grin on his face. "I'm afraid I'm out of gold. But if this works I'll never be out again." A purple light surrounds him and he vanishes. In your mind you can feel someone trying to teleport you. Carly closes her eyes for a second and turns to you before reopening them. "So final decisions?"

'Cheeky little halfling.' Elliott thinks to himself. He remembers thinking poorly of the mercenaries blinded by the promise of gold. He wasn't about to make that rookie mistake. However, if Barris was out of gold, he didn't have the 125,000 gold he promised the guild for the original contract. That was also a problem and exactly why mercenary guilds should always do business in person. The only way he was getting paid was by going and making sure Barris didn't kill himself with his next failed experiment. "We go." Elliott surrenders his body and mind to the teleportation spell.

Carly relaxes herself as well as you teleport in a flash of purple light. In an instant you find yourself on a small island surrounded by water. With a massive water-clock hanging above you. (you know the description) With a Elven woman standing in front of you that looks almost identical to Carly. She turns from Barris up to you. "Aw Elliott, Carly. It's been awhile how are you?" Barris gets a bit of a nervous look on his face. "Ow, I didn't actually expect you to follow me here." Carly turns and gives him a stern look before turning to look at the other elf. "So Layla are you going to pay his debt?"
"We don't see eachother for over a thousand years and that's the first thing you ask me?!"
"Well he owes us 125k gold, and you're clearly connected to him!"
"Is gold all you care about?"
"Oh I don't want to hear that from you!"

(they will continue this if no one stops them)

"It's boring, Elliott is going to start a guild now that's exciting."

"Yeah, telepathically when I was trying to meditate."

"See her how? I on't have teleportation like you!"
"Well maybe if you stayed here and studied with me you would!"
"Well maybe if you would give me your amulet since you can teleport with spells now."
"Oh like you know enough about the planes to use my amulet."
"You don't know what I've learned in the past thousand years."
"Well I'm certain nothing useful fighting like a barbarian."
"Hey you take that back some of my best friends are barbarians!"

"Um. I'd really like to..."
"And he still owes us money!"
"Fine Carly, if you care so much about the money take it, just take it!"
Layla holds out her hand and a small coin pouch appears in it in a burst of purple light. She hands it over to Carly.
"There are you happy now."
"Yes, yes I am. Thank you!"
"Well you're welcome, now maybe you should go visit Catherine sometime."
"oh by Kord I don't even know where she is!"
"Well maybe you should ask."
"Well maybe you should stop being a bitch and tell me."
"See you are so barbaric, you can't even have a decent conversation."
"See this is why you still arn't married!"
"Oh, and you are?"
"Shut up!"
"Um. Excuse me."
"Yes Barris, what do you need?"
"I have some questions for you."
"Just a minute. Do you have anything else you need Carly."
Carly turns to you. "Is there anything you needed Elliott?"

"It was nice seeing you again as.." Barris interrupts Layla. "Wait you said you wanted another contract right?" Layla looks at him with a annoyed face then looks up at you waiting for your responce.

Elliott spares Barris a glance. "I always want another contract." He returns his gaze to the important people in this conversation. "So Layla, have you been keeping up on your lute playing, or does Dorvellia consume all your time with her lessons and bookkeeping?"

Layla smiles this was the first conversation she's had in awhile. "Oh it's not so bad, I have learned to multi-task very well with my psionic abilities. So you're planning on starting a guild. I imagine it will be easy for you two to destroy any competition. She gives a slight chuckle. Barris sighs and enters the conversation. "I hate to interrupt but I do have a purpose for coming here. This is the greatest source of information in existence and I need to research the philosopher stone." Layla turns to him and is caught speechless by his request.

Layla nods her head. "Alright I will send you to where you need to go. Please don't harm any of the books." She snaps her fingers and Barris disappears in a flash of purple light. She then turns back around to you and Carly. "Well for now I believe your business with him is done. But from what it sounds like he will ask for you again. Is there anything you wish to discuss? would you like a cup of tea? Or shall I send you somewhere?"

Elliott looks to Carly for a second or two before speaking to Layla again. "I don't think I would mind catching up a bit, but we should be back to the guild soon. I'd hate for them to think we weren't capable of handling the mystery contract. Are we allowed in the tower?"

Layla smiles. "I would love to catch up with you. And there is no need to worry about time. I can send you directly to the guild hall. and time moves much slower on this plane." She begins to walk toward the tower. "We are allowed up to floor 30 but no farther then that." When you enter the tower there is a teleportation circle that can take you to any level of the tower 30 or below. "So anywhere particular you want to go or talk about?"
