Elliott in Eveningstar Empty Elliott in Eveningstar

Post by Elliott the Undying Sat Jun 06, 2015 5:02 pm

Elliott, Carly, and Bartholomew's cleric arrive in Eveningstar. The Cleric headbutts them both, as is the customary farewell for a Bartholomewian, and travels back to Ysgard. Elliott takes in the feel of the city. It had been so long since he was in the company of common people. It felt good to be the best again. "So, Carly, where do we start? I think I need to find a magic shop because wearing two necklaces at once kills my neck. Meet by that well in an hour?"

Carly leans on the hilt of her great axe nods her head. "Sounds good to me." She picks up her axe and latches it onto her back. "See you in an hour." She cracks her neck and begins to walk down the street. You make your way to the magic shop. The shop owner sits at his counter looking at some of his wares through a spyglass. He doesn't look up when you walk into the store but says in a very monotone voice. "Hello, how may I help you today?"

"I have some very powerful items from an age ago I'm looking to sell. If you've heard of the war of Semphar, I posess the whip and sword of the usurper of the king's throne at the final battle when devils invaded the city. I have her +4 speed shock flame bastard sword and her +4 flame vorpal whip that I've had quite long enough with no use for. I'm looking to sell." Elliott places the items delicately on the table so as to make them seem valuable and well cared for.

The mans eyes widen and he looks over the weapons with awe. He takes his spyglass at looks carefully at the details at the weapons for a few minutes. Then looks at you over them, he takes a step back and gulps out of nervousness and excitement over having the weapons in his shop. "Where? Where do you get.. No don't tell me." He takes out a large chest from under his counter and begins counting his gold. "I'll give you 90,000 gold for the Bastard sword. And um... 140,000 gold for the whip."

Elliott likes those numbers. Though he knows he has the guy on the hook. "Round those numbers up to 150k and 100k, and you've got a deal, sir. Bring these to a private auction and imagine what a museum or private collector would pay for these unique items. They're more than worth your time and coin." Elliott doesn't necessarily need the coin, but he was considering buying a building to serve as a guild hall. He wasn't quite sure how 20,000 gold could make or break a purchase in real estate, but if he could get an edge, then he wanted to have it.

the man sweats a little as he counts his coin. He fears bankruptcy but also doesn't want to pass up the chance to buy such fine items. "Okay, it's a deal!" The man puts all of his coin back inside the gold chest and uses all of his strength to lift it up onto the counter. "There you are, 250,000 gold pieces of the items." He reaches his arms out in excitement for receiving the items.

Elliott lets him take the whip and bastard sword, and he dumps the money into his pocket. "If I may employ your services and give you some of this gold back, I would like to trade in a ring of protection +5 and an amulet of natural armor +5 for a ring of protection +5 and of natural armor +5. Also, if I could have these four items identified." Elliott places the amulet of nat armor +5 and ring of protection +5 along with a headband, ring, pair of bracers, and a pair of gloves on the counter.

the merchant breathes a sigh of relief glad that he was getting some of the money back. He would now be able to pay his rent for this month. "Yes thank you. I'll give you 50,000 for them both, and It'll cost you 125,000 for the new one. so it'll cost you your ring and amulet and 75,000 gold." He looks over the other items that you laid on the counter. "I'll have to take these in the back and study these to figure out what they are."

Elliott thinks for a moment thinking he could squeeze more out of the shopkeeper, but the poor guy had been fair to him so far."That is a deal." Elliott counts 75,000 gold and puts it back on the counter. I can be reached by courier. The name is Elliott the Undying. I'll hold you on your honor, or those relics might just find themselves in my hands again." Elliott puts the new ring on, feeling his skin toughen as it slips on his finger. He reaches out to shake the man's hand. "I appreciate your time Mr. ...?"

After shaking his hand and getting his name, Elliott steps out of the shop and looks around for either a cartographer or mercenary/warrior/fighters guild.

The city is has several different types of buildings in it but the ones that stick out the most are a small shop with a small sign on the door that reads "NikTak professional cartographer" Then farther down the street stand two rather massive buildings the one on the left side of the street has two signs by the front door that read.  "The black dogs- Any job for a price"  And across from it on the right side of the street stood a similar looking building with a plaque over the front door that reads "Blood brothers- For honour, and strength."

Elliott goes into the cartographer's shop and up to whomever is attending the store. "Sir (or madam), I am painfully unacquainted with this realm. How much would it cost to get a detailed map of the province?"

"Make it two gold, and you've got a deal!" He knew he would need maps for his guild hall, and one gold now could save him much, much more in the future. He takes the map, goes to the fountain, and studies it until Carly arrives.

"Well, I'm thinking about chartering with a mercenary guild for a job or two just to get the feel of the business back. I was considering the Blood Brothers. I'm not a fan of the die with honor types, but the Black Dogs sound like ametures. Then I was considering buying a hall to start my own guild." Elliott points to the map. "Bartholomew's cleric said we were in the capitol city, which is Eveningstar here." Elliott slides his finger to the right. "Over here, Arabel looks like a much larger city." Elliott slides his finger down. "However down South the port town Suzail could bring in foreign customers. I'm thinking we can do a few jobs, earn some startup capitol, and start ourselves a guild. Of course, we'll take the highest paying jobs ourselves off the books." Elliott raises an eyebrow. "Sound like a plan you can roll with?"

Elliott rolls up the map and points down a street with it. "Carly! Guild sector is that way." One corner of his mouth turns up in a slight smile as they walk down the street. This was going to be good. Elliott and Carly walk into the Blood Brothers building. Elliott scans around to try and find someone who is in charge of contracts.

As you look around the room you see several depictions to the walls seem to be decorated with different décor primarily to the deity Kord. But there are some things hanging up that resemble the deity Barthalomew. The room isn't very big but could hold about 20 people in it uncomfortably. Currently only 3 other people are in the room. Two citizens and one man who sits behind a desk talking to them about a potential job. He looks past them for a brief moment as you enter into the room. "Hail citizens, is there a job we can do for you?" Behind him there is a door leading into what looks like a dining hall with lots of people drinking and singing. there is a carving in the wood above the door that reads. "Guild members only"

Elliott walks up behind the citizens and responds, "Indeed there is, sir. The question is whether there is a job I can do for you. I'm seeking employment as a mercenary in your guild. We may discuss details after your dealings with these clients are concluded. I would hate to disturb your business." Elliott folds his hands in front of him and waits his turn. He turns to Carly and says just loudly enough to be heard by the contractor, "Huh, that tapestry looks a lot like Bartholomew. I wonder how he's been that past hour without us."

Carly gives a slight smile and gives a chuckle. "He's probably just sitting in his chair. Chair this. Chair that. It's all he cares about."The man behind the desk flinches a bit when you mention Bartholomew. He finds it hard to concentrate after the remark but is still able to finish the job deal. instantly agreeing to the amount the citizens wanted to pay instead of bartering with them. He them signals for them to leave and stares at you with a look of curiosity. "Excuse me, did I hear you say that you know Bartholomew as in the deity Bartholomew?"

Elliott walks forward politely, "Oh yes. We knew him back when he was just a titan. Now he wields lightning bolts instead of those scimitars. A bit gaudy for my taste, but he's the god now. I only trained under him for two years. My friend Carly here trained under him for three!" Elliott gestures grandly to Carly, showing her off a bit. It was a shame that female warriors needed more showmanship to sell. They generally weren't as good as Carly though. "That's all in the past though, we were going to discuss employment. First I'd like to know, out of each contract that's made through the guild, what percentage goes to the governing body in taxes, how much does the guild take, and how much is left for the contracted mercenary?"

The man straightens up and looks at you with intrigue in his eyes.  "Bartholomew ascended into deity hood back over one thousand years ago, what do you mean you knew him?  Who exactly are you people?" Some of the people in the dinner hall turn and begin looking at Elliott and Carly.  They whisper amongst themselves and one man standing close to eight feet tall walks out of the room with a mug of ale steps out of the room and looks you over with half drunken eyes.  "Oh shut up about your suspicions you pansy!"  He takes another drink from the mug and points at Eliott.  "We give 20% tax to the city, the guild takes 40%, and you get 40%." He gives you a obviously drunken smile half walks half wobbles forward a little. "Now sinse you say you trained under Bartholomew, you shouldn't have a problem taking on our biggest contract." he pulls open a drawer in the desk.  The man sitting at the desk now sits in silence as the drunken man does what he wants.  After feeling around in the drawer for a few moments he pulls out a piece of paper and slams in on top of the desk.  The paper reads.

"Dear, blood brothers.
I desperately require your aid and am willing to pay very well for it.  The mission should be mostly simple it is just a simple protection mission as I travel to a certain location.  I cannot say what dangerous may await us at the location or on our travels but I'm sure your company is prepared for anything. When you have found someone to accept this contract.  Please resend the messenger bird that delivered it to you with the name of the man accepting the contract and a description of him.  Then tell him to meet me in the King's Forest outside of Waymoot.

Signed: Bart

After you read the contract the man speaks up again.  "The man who sent this message gave us a down fee of 200 gold pieces and sent another message telling us that he'd pay 125k gold for the completion of the contract so what do you say?  Up for a little escort mission?"  The other man sitting at the desk clenches his fists together and looks both nervous and furious.  "This is the third letter we have received from a man signed Bart.  The other two contracts we sent our brothers on ended up killing them.  Don't do a contract for this man!" He quickly gets up from his chair and walks away into the dinning room hall.  The drunken man laughs at him as he walks away.  "Don't worry about him, you said you wanted work so do you want the job or not?"
