Carly turns around and looks at the event with a sigh. "Zenthia go back to the guild, we have work to do. This is no place for you."

After the bag rips out of his hands, suddenly a naked elf lies before him. He suddenly looks up straight at a wall. "Uh...Zenthia? What in the nine he-...cks What in the nine hecks are you doing here?" If he knew she could keep a secret, he'd be fine letting her come along, but the risk to the client was too much. "We're taking care of adult business. People die when things go wrong with this business. Go back to the guild. There's a large enchanted concrete slab. If you stand on it for a second, it will heal you. Please go." Elliott waits until she leaves before continuing on to meet the client. Catherine had said she didn't have to sleep anymore, so she should be able to keep better track of her daughter. When Elliott gets to the arena, he briskly walks circles around the outside until he is approached by the client or ambushed by Black Dogs.

A couple guard patrols pass by the arena every so often making it a well guarded area. Near the front gate a halfling or small child stands with a cloak over covering itself, it also wears a mask that you recognize to be the same as the mask of lies Layla used to wear.

Elliott glances at the figure's chest for a second and a half. He remembers how Layla used to use that mask to control minds, so he wasn't about to make eye contact. He mentally prepares maneuvers accordingly for mental and physical ambush. He looks long enough to let the figure know he was noticed, but continues walking around the arena. He had no way of knowing whether this was his contact or not. His contact knew him, though, so it was up to him to approach Elliott. Elliott continues walking.

Elliott crosses his arms. "I received a letter. Tell me, what are the 9 disciplines of the sword?" (Martial lore DC: 10)
After his response: "Okay, what disciplines do you follow?" (Knowledge: self DC: 1)

His eyes get wide at the first question. "The only discipline's I know of is diamond mind, gold stomach, stone giant, tiger claw, desert air, purple hippo, devoted spirit, setting moon, and shadow hand. I study under the discipline of the diamond mind. Although I have never received any formal training in my art. I know the martial adept's are the crusader, the warblade, and the swordsage. I didn't know certain adept's could only learn certain arts. I just know I study the diamond mind maneuvers and stances. And I have no idea what so ever what the first sword created was, but it sounds like an interesting story and would love to hear it sometime."

Elliott's eyes narrow as a bad sense motive hunch tells him this kid is just stalling for time to lay an ambush. So this kid knew a little bit about martial study. So what? Elliott draws a sword. "You study Diamond Mind then, Black Dog? You have one chance to hit me with your best maneuver. Otherwise you're going to be the first casualty of this little ambush attempt. I recommend an insightful strike or nightmare blade although emerald razor might serve you well in this situation." Elliott takes the hearing the air and supremacy of steel stances prepared to parry whatever the small figure has to throw at him. Elliott activates his true strike gauntlets just in case. His opponent has rapiers, so it is entirely possible for him to study diamond mind, but it could just as easily be a coincidence.

The halfling undoes his cloak and draws his rapier in a quick motion. He gets a smile across his face. "Challenge accepted." He steadies his rapier and stabs at thee with a emerald razor maneuver.

Elliott effortlessly bats the stroke to the side. It was a solid strike. "That was a solid strike," Elliott says with his sword still out. "A level two maneuver, so you have studied a bit at least. Perhaps I misjudged you. Although you attacked without assessing me first: a common mistake among the young adepts. Put your sword away before the guards arrest you. You said in your letter you wanted to be free of the Black Dogs. If you choose to study under me in my guild, you will be safe from them."

The halfling puts his sword away and speaks under his breath in a low whisper. "No, I will be safe when inside your guild. I don't think you can keep me safe outside your walls. At least not at all hours of the day. But I have been charged with a quest that will free me from them permanently. But to accomplish the task they have given me I will need help and I would like your help. As I mentioned in my letter to you I cannot offer gold though I promise as a warblade of your caliber it will be worth your time."

"My time is quite valuable. You can repay me with Black Dog blood. I'll take my payment from them. Before I agree, what exactly do you want from me? What's the job?" Elliott sheathes his sword, draws a quill, ink, and paper, and prepares to draw out a contract.

He continues speaking softly. "I have been tasked with recovering one of the legendary swords from the temple of the nine. The sword by the name of Kamate. I'm not sure what it does or what makes it great. But I know if I recover the sword then I'm free of the black dogs forever. Seeing as how you are advanced in the arts, you could help me with this task."

Elliott tries to keep a straight face and hide his utter astonishment, a feat that may well be beyond him.

Elliott drops the quill he's holding. "Say again? Kamate? You're absolutely-" Elliott takes a very deep breath and picks up his quill. He continues speaking more professionally. "Of course you're sure. You know its name and you know its status. Kamate is the sword of the Iron Heart discipline. It was the sword I asked you about. The first forged by mortal hands. The legend says it was forged of lightning by a hobgoblin." Why was he giving his client a history lesson? He reminds himself that he is a mercenary right now, not a teacher. "I apologize. Do you know its location or how we are to retrieve it?"

The halfling does not give away his smile but could easily tell that Elliott was very interested in his request. "I have a map to a location that should have the temple of the nine. Getting there or knowing what lies ahead in that location. Well I called on the best for a reason..."

Elliott nods his head and starts writing. "I understand. Remnants of the Shadow Tiger horde could very likely still inhabit the ruins of the Temple. The legends say that the swords were scattered the day the Temple fell, and it's been centuries since then. What makes you think that the sword is still there?"
