Zenthia walks over and offers her apple to Corvus (assuming he's the big kid) Layla looks at him then at Elliott a sword appears in her hand and she hand it over to Elliott. "You take this, you'll be the one training the kid. I will entrust you with his sword."

[Corvus Nox]

Corvus bends to one knee with a smile and says, "Why thank you little one. Would you like to come sit down with me and we can eat our apples together? Ill even tell you a funny story!"

Zenthia raises her arms upward, and yawns..

[Elliott the Undying]

"Glad I'm worthy, Layla." Elliott unsheathes the sword. He tests its balance, checks its flexibility, and taps its tip on the floor. He recognizes the balance of the collision enchantment. Must be at least +3. "Your father must have been a wealthy man to afford such a blade. Carly and I saw this uneven edge style a few times on Ysgard. Ancient warriors there swore by it, but I never saw why. One false swing and you'd lose a leg on it. I'll keep it in the vault until you finish your training and I'm certain you won't maim yourself on it. I've got more than one precaution against theft there." He puts the sword in the vault. He wonders if he should get the lock trapped in case someone tries to pick it. "Will you be staying long, Catherine? I'm sure Layla can spare her bed here for you so you can do that trance thing comfortably."

[Corvus Nox]

"Thank you sir I suppose that's fair." Then Corvus mumbles under his breath, "I defeated that gnoll just fine...."

[Elliott the Undying]

Before going to the vault, Elliott hears the distinct sound of discontented mumbling, but he can't remotely make out words. He turns to face Corvus. "Something to say, Corvus?"

Catherine smiles at Elliott. "Well that would be wonderful, but I don't sleep actually. Much too busy for simple tasks such as that. But I will stick around for a little bit so Layla can inform me on this area."
"It would be simpler to just go back to my plain and.."
"I have no wish to leave this plain. You're powerful enough to bring your books here if you wish."
"You've always been difficult."
"Says you."
"Seconded." Layla shoots annoyed glares at both of her sisters. "Fine I'll be back." She teleports away in a blast of light. Catherine laughs. "See Zenthia, your aunt Layla is silly isn't she?"

[Keiracat]

Zenthia laughs, running to her mother. "Aunt Layla is very grumpy. How long will you stay mother?" She pauses and looks at the floor, standing in front of her mother. "I don't want you to go.." Her apple falls to the floor.

[Corvus Nox]

Wide-eyed, Corvus frantically shakes his head no.

Catherine bends down and pats Zenthia on the head. "It's alright, I'll be here for a little longer. And I shouldn't be gone too long." She walks out into the courtyard. "Come with me, building have always made me feel a little uncomfortable." Once outside Layla reappears with a stack of books. "Alright Catherine, I know that you won't read. But maybe we can still put some information into that head of yours."

[Keiracat]

Zenthia follows her mother outside, and stares wide eyed at all the books. "Can I have that many books!? Please mother, I have never read a full one before!" She looks at her mother, her eyes full of wonder.

[Elliott the Undying]

Elliott leaves behind Catherina and Zenthia, "Speaking of sleep, Corvus. I'll show you the barracks." He exits the hall through the North exit and goes into the nearest door. It opens into a room with 10 beds, an empty chest at the end of each bed, and a rack with a wooden training sword beside each bed. If you put your ear right next to any of them, the swords hums almost indiscernibly. If you hit it off of anything, there's a small electric pop. The everburning torches that light the room have small wooden shutters around the flame that can be used to darken the room. At the end of the room is a door that leads to a latrine. "First come, first served. Pick whichever one you want. I'll wake you for breakfast in the morning. Anything you need to know?"

Layla smiles as if she won a great victory. "You can read as many books as you like, I have enough to keep you entertained for as long as you want." Catherine just chuckles to herself. "Good luck with that Layla, we'll see how long before she gets bored. It's always better to experience then to read. And experience is what I want you to teach her." Layla sighs. "Alright, it's your daughter." They both sit down and begin discussing Catherine's artifact.

(Here, little girl. This book is called an autobiography. It's a book of other people's experiences. Now learn them.)

Elliott would answer Corvus' questions then run forms in the courtyard before closing the portcullises, reading his book, and going to bed.

Corvus looks at his new home. Picking a bed closer to the door means more noise as people come in and out, and gives me less time to react if someone comes in. Closer to the latrine means I have to deal with the smell. In the middle means I will always have someone at my back. Corvus sighs and decides he'd rather put up with the smell then let some enemy or rival get a free shot at him and picks the bed in the back right corner. "Sir?" Corvus asks, "Why m.... Nevermind. When can we start?"

[Elliott the Undying]

"I'd prefer to start formal training tomorrow. You can take a practice sword out and hit a dummy a few times if you want. I'll be out there running forms for a few minutes anyway."

[Corvus Nox]

Excitedly Corvus runs over to his new bunk, throws his bundle of padded armor in his chest and looks at the sword rack.  Looking he sees a wooden long sword just a little shorter than his bastard sword and picks it up, then rushes out to the training yard.

[Elliott the Undying]

(I actually only bought wooden longswords... bit of an oversight on my part. Elliott would want recruits starting on longswords at first anyway.)

Elliott does all the things he needs to do while Corvus practices his heart out. 

(If everybody's done, I think today is just about finished. Unless Zenthia has something to do, let's move on to tomorrow.)

Elliott is woken by the sun peeking over the thunder peaks through his large window. He straps on his swords to belt scabbards and goes down to the barracks. He smells breakfast on his way through the dining hall, but proceeds to duty first. He opens the door to the barracks, "Wake up! There's only 2 of us and we've got 50 men's worth of training to do. UP!" He takes a training sword off of the wall and smacks Corvus in no body part in particular just hard enough to give him a slight electric shock through the blanket. "Leaving for a run in 2 minutes. I'd suggest stretching and getting a drink first. Bring your sword with you. It needs exercise too." Elliott gets a drink, stretches briefly, drinks again, and leaves for a jog whether Corvus is there or not.


(I would prefer to fast forward through training time. I'm going to house rule that it would take several months of intense training to train a class level for each recruit even though it should take 1d4 years for a human warblade and more for other races, and ain't nobody got time to roleplay all that.)

Corvus wakes up to a shock through his system, bright light and a strict taskmaster await him. This is gonna be a long time training...

The ruling is 1d2+2 months/class level under Elliott's intense tutelage as opposed to 1d4 years. Elliott wouldn't want men going out without knowing wall of blades (2nd level maneuver) which requires level 3 warblade. So Corvus, roll 3d2+6 months to see how long your training takes to level 3 and everyone on my timeline fast forward to there.
