Finrick strikes out with his attacks and all of them pass though the creatures without harming them. The creatures you hit seem to be mostly unaffected by the attacks. They do not bleed but slightly recoil from the hits.

Elliott spots nothing as they seem to disappear from the material plane. In their absence a trail forms of what seems to be blood flowing in a direction away from Elliott and Finrick.

"I don't have to tell you to be careful, bud. This is starting to get really weird." Elliott follows the trail with eyes and ears open for trouble.

As you follow the trail around the mountains if becomes harder for you to remember your way back and the trail disappears behind you. (will save DC 15 to remember) After a few hours of walking you find your way to a pit hole where the trails stops. Several of the creatures you encountered before float around and keep a watchful on you and Finrick. But show no acts of hostility, instead they gesture toward the whole with their halberds.

Elliott tries to remember where he's been as he moves forward. "If you hear me screaming, don't jump down after me. I'll give you the all clear if it's safe." He puts his swords on his back and starts to climb down the hole.

You make it all the way to the bottom (120 ft) with no problems as Finrick patiently waits for you to yell at him. At the bottom you look out to see that you're standing in a cave past a forest there is a temple standing out from amongst the trees that matches the description as the temple of the nine.

Overcome with awe, Elliott leans against the wall he climbed down. 'This is it,' he thinks to himself, 'this is where the martial adepts coalesced in days of old.' He wished he had prepared something profound to say, but words escaped him.

"All clear," He shouts up the hole. "And it's a long way down, so don't try to jump it."

After Finrick makes it down, Elliott starts walking toward the temple with his swords out. "I can imagine if some ancient monsters still live here after the masters turned against each other. Be cautious."

After battling through a couple monsters Elliott and Finrick make it to where the temple stands.  As they approach the gigantic door that leads into the temple a figure falls from the sky getting larger and larger until it is right over the pair it slows as it lands softly on the ground just a few feet away.  The creature that now stands before them is 50 feet tall and looks like it could outweigh 25 elephants.  It has 50 heads and one-hundred arms each wielding a different weapon.  It's two middle heads bend and stare at Elliott and Finrick.  "Who are you to seek entry into this temple?" all 50 heads speak in unity as it asks the question.  Finrick slowly steps behind Elliott thinking it best to let him handle this situation.

As he sees another creature descend from above, Elliott takes his stances. After the creature lands, he realizes he couldn't possibly prepare enough manticore parries. He suddenly felt very small inside his armor and was less comfortable now than the occasions he had found himself in Whinnie's mouth. 'holy. shit. What layer of the abyss could be so malevolent and corrupt as to produce such a terrible and awesome creature?' Elliott thinks to himself. He briefly considers pretending to be just a mercenary and making his contract speak for himself like he did with Zaeuski so long ago, but as Finrick slid behind him he knew that wasn't an option. The creature had spoken before attacking, which was more than the helpful hobgoblins had done. It had also referred to the temple as a temple rather than a lair or keep. Was it possible that it believed in what made the temple sacred and was some sort of guardian? Elliott considers displaying his mastery of two arts to prove his worthiness to enter the temple, but somehow he felt that showing off 9th level maneuvers wouldn't impress this creature. After a moment or two of considering options and simply admiring the creature, Elliott speaks. "We are travelers of the Sublime Way. I am a Master of Iron Heart and Diamond Mind, and this is my student whom I instruct in Diamond Mind. We come because we wish to honor those who followed the Way before us." Elliott prays to Bartholomew and Kord for their personal intervention should the creature respond unfavorably.

The creature stiffens up. "It has been many years since someone has attempted to use the door to enter into the temple. I will allow it, but cause trouble and it will be me that you deal with." The creature stands aside but keeps it's weapons ready. The massive doorway stands before Elliott and Finrick. Upon entering all magic stops working on armor, weapons, and equipment. The hallway is covered in complete darkness and feels like it dropped 60 degrees when entering making it almost unbearably cold.

Elliott enters the temple. This would have been a terribly unpleasant place to train. It didn't feel like home. In fact it just felt plain wrong. "Is it everything you expected?" Elliott asks out of his own disappointment. Elliott walks into the darkness. He feels his Ioun stone clink off his armor and onto the floor. He retrieves it and puts it in one of his nonmagical pockets. He inspects his weapons and finds they no longer cackle with electricity. Last time this had happened was when Galathos had betrayed him. He remembers Layla's reassurance that Finrick wasn't going to betray him. He keeps his weapons ready as he walks through the darkened halls searching for a sign of Kamate.

Elliott thinks he see's darkness, upon further investigation he is correct.  Finrick stays close to Elliott during this time with his weapons drawn close to him.  As they stumble through the cold and dark a few lights begin to peek in through cracks in the walls and some windows.  Finrick whispers quietly.  "What happened here?" They can begin to make out some details of rooms were people would have eaten, slept, and trained.  Until they reach a large spiraling staircase that led up into the temple, and down below it.

Elliott sighed. It was depressing. He couldn't remember if he'd told Finrick the story of the fall of the temple yet. The headband must have lost its magic too if his memory was going. "Arrogance. Pride. Ambition. That's what happened here. Shadow Hand and Tiger Claw thought they were the superior arts. They raised an army and razed the temple. Shadows... it's fitting. Reshar's legacy was shrouded in darkness when the ways were scattered. If I were here then, Shadow Hand and Tiger Claw wouldn't be here now." He'd heard the stories, but now that he was here, he was angry. He hadn't really been angry since... The wisdom enchantment. That confirmed it, the headband was gone. 'Enchantments can be re-bought, but Kamate must be recovered.' Now with anger alongside his nostalgia and wonder, Elliott descends the stairs without a second thought with his guard up and blindsense out to 30 ft.
