Elliott in and around Thay

[Elliott the Undying]

Elliott kneels and looks over Finrick's shoulder at the map. "Layla said she'd teleport us outside of a Temple Rashmoshga or something like that. I'll bet that's what that goblin infested ruin is. A couple thousand years ago I would have actually paid for the opportunity to turn that whole city into a slaughter house. My, oh my, how things change. Geez, is anything labeled on here?"

After examining the map you can tell a few of the landmarks and determine that the picture of the big building must be the temple of nine swords. There appears to be a path through the mountains that leads to it. But nothing on the map is shown to scale so it's impossible to determine how long of a walk it will take. Finlick begins walking up the path into the mountains. After a walking for about an hour you come to a dead end where the map says to keep going forward. Finlick turns to you. "So, do we bust through the wall?"

Elliott scowls at the wall. "I doubt it. It would be impractical to reseal the entrance every time someone came to and from the Temple. We may even be on the wrong path." Elliott thinks for a moment, trying to remember if the legends told of a secret to gaining entry to the temple. He knocks and palm strikes the wall in various places to see if it sounds hollow anywhere. If he can think of nothing and nothing sounds hollow, he mentally maps out a path up the wall and starts climbing. "Might as well get to higher ground. Maybe we will see something from up there."

You find an area to climb and make it to the top. Finrick stays at the bottom and yells up to you. "Do you see anything up there." The sight isn't much since taller mountains still block your vision. You can make out a couple of rocks pushed aside further ahead how ever that make a small path.

Elliott yells back down. "Yeah, there's a small path here. There must have been an earthquake that shifted the ground. Do you think you can make it up here? I've got some potions that can make you human sized if you need the extra reach."
Elliott throws him a potion of enlarge person if he wants and waits for him to climb up. Once Finrick makes it up, they follow the path.

Finrick puts the potion on his belt.  "Nah, I don't need it." He takes a few steps back and starts skating on the ground toward the side of the rock then begins to skate straight up it until he reaches the top.  You continue on the path with mountains stretching up on both sides surrounding you.  Hobgoblins ambush both of you running down the sides of the mountain without trying to hide their presence.  They begin shouting something in a language you don't understand.  And draw their bastard swords.

Elliott draws his swords and prepares for battle when he detects movement. It had been a while. The rush felt good. "I'm right next to you, bud. Shout if you need me." Elliott assesses his situation and re-prepares his maneuvers accordingly. He takes supreme blade parry and dancing blade form. He prepares to strike anyone who moves through his threatened squares. He delays his initiative order until after the Hobgoblins move in.

Finrick stands back to back with you.  The hobgoblins run down the hill with swords drawn yelling in a language you don't understand.  Finrick doesn't appear nervous but his breathing speeds up and becomes slightly unsteady.  The hobgoblins get roughly 50 feet away.

Elliott sees that they are in Iron Heart Stances. Partially because of his sweet martial lore modifier, but mostly because his player is totally the coolest.

[Elliott the Undying]

(I don't see what my coolness has to do with anything, but okay.) 

Elliott sees their stances and initiates a lightning throw in front of them. When his sword arcs back, he shouts out, "KAMATE! KAMATE!" 
He knocks on his armor over the center of his chest. "IRON HEART!" 
He lets his swords touch so that their electricity crackles loudly. "KAMATE!" 
Elliott maintains his synthesis of Iron Heart stances and stays ready to fight if they approach closer than 20 feet.

One of the seven speaks out in goblin and gestures his sword back in the direction that you came from. Finrick looks at the one talking. "I can't tell what he's saying, what do we do?"

[Elliott the Undying]

"We keep talking. Thousands of years ago, we would have been allies."
Elliott puts one sword back on his back and leans the other against his leg. He tries, "Do you speak common/dwarven/orcish?" In common, dwarven, and orcish. If so, he asks about the temple in that language. If not, he holds up 9 fingers and points to his sword.

Several of the hobgoblins look at each other then back to you.  One steps out from among the crowd and appears to be the leader.  Once again he shouts something in Goblin and points his sword back in the direction that you came from.

[Elliott the Undying]

"I'd hate to have to take these guys out just because they don't know damned common. Kamate. The sword. Kamate. Hell, it's your heritage more than mine and we both know it's not even here anymore." Elliott thinks for a moment. "Ur-Thaldaar, right? Your temple? Ur-Thaldaar?" He uses every creative power at his disposal to try to communicate that he's attempting to reach the Temple of Nine Swords.

The goblins appear to get annoyed at your constant talking. The one that has been talking approaches you with his sword still drawn he gets within 20 feet of you.

[Elliott the Undying]

Elliott flourishes the sword he has out and takes his stances. He holds an open palm toward the leader. He activates his true strike gauntlets. "We're both travelers on the same sublime way, buddy, but one step closer and your journey is over." Elliott doesn't want to look like an actionless diplomat in front of his contract, but he doesn't want to ruin the legacy that Reshar established between the hobgoblins and other warblades either.

The hobgoblin stops when you enter your stance.  He attempts to make signs with his hands.

(If I may advocate for an Int check as it's similar to deciphering an unknown code. Also, Mr. Hobgoblin would know that someone who can take two stances at once is a certified master. That's a subtle cue Elliott's trying to send.)
