Phinneas in the Sunset Mountains

[Elliott the Undying]

(We can if you want. There's no rule against it. I usually like to keep a record of where I've been. And there's something fun about making a new thread when you move to a new area.)

There is an orc and a dwarf at the wooden gate. The dwarf raises his tower shield. "Aye there. Ye aren't goblins, are ye?" 
"Of course we're not. We're halflings in disguise."
"Bloody good comeback, lass. Have some fun in Ashbravn for me. If ye see any goblins, let me know."
The orc plays with a butterfly that had landed on his finger and doesn't spare you a glance as you enter the town.

[Zaueski]

"Dwarf, can you point me to the general goods store? I'm a bit low on supplies and would like to refresh our rations" He looks around and takes in the sights of the town.

[Elliott the Undying]

The guard points you in the direction of a general goods store. The town is particularly unremarkable. It appears to be a mining town composed primarily of dwarves and orcs.

[Zaueski]

"All right guys lets take the day off, sleep here in the inn and then move on tomorrow. Don't get into trouble." And he walks to general store to purchase rations, a bedroll and other supplies.

[Elliott the Undying]

It looks like a typical Wild West or gold rush mining town dry goods general store. The dwarf who runs the store sells you the items at market value. Andra and Emmerson get a room at the bunkhouse.

[Zaueski]

After buying supplies he heads to the bunkhouse with them. "Do you think we were followed?"

[Elliott the Undying]

"I sure hope not. If they did, I thought we were going to visit relatives up North."
"They might send people out looking for me, but it's more likely they'll just put my picture up in a few places and put the guards on alert to look out for me. We'll probably be fine here."
"I think we should keep going towards Hluthvar to be safe."
"But they probably have such good food here. Dwarves and orcs, it's like a carnivore's dream!"
"I'm sure it's fantastic for you, but the food alone isn't worth getting enslaved over, is it? Phinneas and I can talk ourselves out of it, but you're screwed if you get caught. Once they find out you're not a duskblade, then we're all screwed. So it's best to keep going."

[Zaueski]

"I agree, besides we told Uncle Roderick to send Nabadach's location and our inheritance up to Hluthvar. Rest up for the day tomorrow and take a breather and then we should keep going on our way." After this he climbs into his bunk and takes a nap

[Elliott the Undying]

Nothing significant happens until you wake up. However long you sleep is up to you.

[Zaueski]

If it was midday when he started napping he'd wake up at dinner, any later and he sleeps til morning.

[Elliott the Undying]

When you wake up, Emmerson is putting his boots on, and Andra is still asleep. "You smell that? I can't tell if it's beef or pork, but I'm getting some."

[Zaueski]

He sniffs the air. "Mmmm that smells good bring some back for everyone"  and he'll toss him 5 coins to get dinner. While Emmerson is gone he'll start making sure everything is in order and making the packs about even between what everyone can comfortably carry all day long.

[Elliott the Undying]

He brings back two plates, one with a dark brown meat and one with a few carrots and slices of potato. "It wasn't pork or beef. The dwarf said it was mutton. I've never seen a mutton before, but he said it was good to eat."
Andra looks at you and then him with an 'is he serious?' kind of look. "Mutton is an enormous beast that lives only in the mountains. They're usually docile and friendly creatures kinda like sheep." She waits a second to see if he gets it.

"The people here must be absolute barbarians to kill one."
Emmerson scoffs. "Meat is meat, Andra. Sacrifices need to be made for the greater good of food."
"Since the sacrifice is already made, I guess I'll have some. You didn't bother grabbing forks?"
"They didn't bother handing out forks!"
"It's settled then. They're a bunch of barbarians. Thank you for buying dinner, Phinneas."
"Mfnk heu, Finis!" Emmerson blurts out around a mouthful of mutton.

He chuckles and starts eating after a couple minutes of this, "Emmerson, mutton is sheep you moron. Andra stop teasing him its too easy anyways"

The meat is inconceivably tender. When you try to get some with your hand, only what you touch comes off of the larger chunk. The meat has a good natural savory flavor of meat, but it hasn't been seasoned at all.
"Oh, come on. I wanted to trick him into going on mutton hunts to pass the time in Hluthvar. You know it would have been fun."

[Zaueski]

"Why waste his time hunting mutton when he could be hunting Knocks Andra?" He says between mouthfuls with a huge grin barely holding back laughter at his own joke.

Emmerson hits you with a greasy hand. "Ha ha lets get the moron looking for knocks all over the place."
Andra swallows some carrot. "You'll never find one. They're extinct. Although a mage or cleric could bring one back. Could you imagine a bird that big raised as a zombie? It could peck the heartworms out of a dire bear."

"Are you serious? I didn't even think they were real? Ha there's no way you could take one down Emmerson! You'd be dead in 2 seconds flat!" He throws a cup of water back at him in retaliation for the hit and laughs.

Emmerson wipes the water from his clothes. "Come on! At least give me 10 seconds. I do have a shield after all. It would take a few seconds to peck through the metal."
Andra shrugs. "I guess you've got a point. I'll give you five."
Emmerson scoffs. "And how long would you last, Ms. bat cloud?"
Andra smiles, "The knock would find the bats tasty allowing me to escape."
"When it finishes munching, it flies after you and you're dead."
"Maybe, but at least I have a chance of making it to the 20 second mark."
"Like it matters when we're all dead from a bird that doesn't even exist anymore. What about Phinneas, huh? I'll give you the 2 second death sentence."

[Zaueski]

"But I've got the longest range of all of us, it'd have to reach me first! That's gotta be worth at least 15 seconds." He finishes up eating and begins cleaning up dinner while they chat.

[Elliott the Undying]

Emmerson throws up his hands. "Well, why didn't you guys tell me the bird was starting 15 seconds away? I get to add my 10 seconds to-"
"You mean your five seconds?"
"We'll split the difference, six and a half seconds."
"I'm fine with that."
"Yeah, so if I get to add mine, then I'm at 21.5 seconds. How about that?"
"I suppose that's a decent time. Add that to my bats though and-"
"No one cares about your bats. 21.5 seconds is the winner."
Andra scowls at him and smiles cruelly. She squints her eyes like she's concentrating on something. "You really don't care about the bats? Why don't you tell them yourself?"
"HOW ABOUT NOPE!" Emmerson grabs his plate, rushes out of room, and runs into a dwarf.
"Oi there, hyooman! Watch where yer goin'! Kolgrim!" A dwarf sleeping on the bottom bunk of a bed across the room stirs and offers a drowsy moan. "Kolgrim! Wake oop! Ye'll miss the goblin raid! They're attackin' the North Gate! They've already made off with some chickens."
"Eeh. Let 'em have the chickens. I were carryin' adamantine from the mine all night."
"They're going after the pub too!"
The dwarf leaps out of bed with great zeal and grabs a hammer from beside his bed. "MORADIN TAKE 'EM ALL!" They both rush out.
Emmerson looks shocked. "Are they really that protective over their booze?"
