He gives you a strange glare. "you're just trying to change the subject, but alright let us keep looking." He gets back on his riding dog and stops riding off in a random direction into the forest.

Coraliss casts "cure minor wounds" to heal up the stupid squirrel bite. She climbs up on her dog and follows Merlan.

After about three hours of riding you still don't find Willo's dad. Merlan takes a deep breath and turns to you. "It's starting to get dark, and the caravan will be leaving in the morning. Maybe you should head back."

He starts petting his riding dog with his right hand. "I'll be fine out here, I have fluffy with me, don't I boy." The riding dog barks and sounds happy. "See he agree's with me."

He bends over Fluffy's face and looks him in the eyes. "Fluffy will you protect me if a bigger meaner squirrel comes along?" Fluffy gives another happy bark and sticks his tongue out. "See, he'll protect me. You don't need to worry."

"sure, that's what it means...okay how about this. We head back tonight, let the caravan know that we are going to stick around and keep looking if they have not found him yet, because the others might have found him. If they have not, then we come back out tomorrow morning with some provisions, and catch up with them in the next town.

Merlan chuckles. "Alright well we have no food. So we came from that general direction. Let's go back in that general direction!" He begins to ride off with much enthusiasm.

After riding for about an hour Merlan stops fluffy and look back at you. "Okay we should actually be smart about this. If we head north then we'll find the road that the caravan is taking and then by following the road we'll find the caravan. Simple right? Now how do we tell which way is north?"

"Well the sun sets in the west so directly opposite is east, west is on the right of north. So if we turn so that our right hand is towards the setting sun then we should be heading in the general direction of north. Or at least that is my assumption. Once the stars come out it will be easier."
(all based on the assumption that the compass points are the same here and that the stars are the same constellations.)
